Today, September 10, Bettye Mae Jack Middle School went into Lockdown status after receiving information from students of a TikTok video showing up on their cell phone of a school shooting threat to occur at Bettye Mae Jack on September. 11. Law Enforcement were contacted and responded immediately to the school to investigate the threat. No credible threat has been identified at this time. Law Enforcement presence will be increased for the remainder of the school week on campus for the safety and security of our students and staff members. We are aware of similar threats being communicated at multiple schools across the nation this week. We will fully investigate each and every threat to ensure the safety and well being of our students and staff members.
We would like to thank our students for bringing this information to the attention of the school personnel. The students' communication of the potential threat, along with the quick response of the school staff, administration and local law enforcement, ensured the safety of our students and staff members today and should be commended.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to cooperate with local law enforcement during this time.
